Things that make me go, "Woohoo!"
My old roommate Ken asked me to put together "a list of things that make me go, "Woohoo!"...just for fun. It was a great idea...try it and see if makes you happy just to write this stuff down! Well, here it is.
-Riding a bike in the big chainring during the late afternoon on a smooth road with a tiny bit of downward slope and a slight tailwind...hauling balls, maybe even passing cars...just flat going fast.
-Not slowing or downshifting when riding up that slight rise that follows the long 1% grade downhill...WooHoo!...I am invincible.
-Websurfing: see below.
-Reading Magazines: My brain likes information shotgun-style; lots of little bits blasted my general direction. I crave the exposure to so many things I hadn't considered before, in both text and images, with minimal investment, and an easy ability to delve deeper when my interest is piqued. Maybe this is why I like used CD shopping! :-)
-The process of discovery when researching a topic that intrigues me, but that I know very little about to begin with.
-Exploring, whether by foot, bicycle, or car, searching for views, and forever asking, "What is it like over there?"
-Watching good movies: Well shot, well-acted, well-edited....well-written is a minor detail to me...thought-provoking, but entertaining and fantastic (as in fantasy, the magic of the movies, something you wouldn't see every day.)
-Late-afternoon light when the sun is really low.
-The desert.
-Languages, music, and sounds-aural experiences.
-Most of Japanese culture.
-Occasional roughhousing and good-natured rowdiness.
-Flying in the face of convention, but with subtlety.
-Frisbee golf.
-The feeling of elation, wonder, and humility that comes with being in nature and far from
civilization.
-Eating tasty food.
-Solving mechanical problems, particularly designing and then executing a mechanical system to meet a given need.
-Connecting with my cousins, aunts, uncles-seeing so many similarities that make us family, understanding each other so readily, piecing together my heritage and stories about our parents and grandparents in earlier times.
-Rallying-A good mental and physical challenge, requiring you to drive briskly, think and calculate, occasionally gamble a bit, and be flexible-you never know what might be around the next curve in the road!
-Go kart racing-Good natured fun-easy to learn, difficult to master-the perfect level of fun competition, and the fastest you will ever drive at 40 mph or less!
-Walking: While it may seem like a simple operation, walking everywhere makes you notice so much and feel so good!
-Analyzing a social or cultural situation, and observing behavior, (not just people, even watching ducks!) which is tied to another thing that makes me go, "Woohoo".....
-Figuring out where someone is coming from, how they see things, and what makes them tick, studying behavior, and helping others to understand what I have learned. Getting inside someone else's head, understanding their motivation, and eventually maybe finding a common ground. I also get a real thrill from playing social and cultural chameleon; climb to the other side of the fence, learning as I go, see if I can "pass," and once accepted, marvel at what the view is like from over here. This is why I studied anthropology, this is why I am interested in mediation.
-Wierd and unusual cars, especially small wierd cars, especially small wierd sporty Japanese cars.
-Unexpected adventures.
