2005: Travels, Friends, and Garage Cleaning!
Train travel to Los Angeles

Fairbank family fun on the train to L.A.

Stopped behind a derailed freight train!

Waiting...

And more waiting...
Albuquerque

My impromptu bed at Aunt Faith's house...comprised of a tall stack of all of the bedding material available.

Megan's response to my bed!

Walking along the ditch...just like old times.

Jetty jacks in the bosque.

Bosque.

The mighty Rio Grande.

Bosque leaves...a sight and smell which brought back a flood of childhood memories.

Sandias loom large over a typical riverfront landscape.

Typical Albuquerque urban argriculture...but less and less each year.

Family confusion.

Austin

Old homestead, now urban, but restored, near Donald's house.

Coffee shop near Donald's house...this place featured a great cross-section of locals.

Typical Austin housing in my cousin Peter's neighborhood.

Not nearly as many 60's cars as Portland, but this house had two Olds 88's...one restored and one original.

This type of sidewalk stencil is a popular way to make a statement in Portland also...not sure what to make of this one, though.

Donald's street...I love the oaks!

The fancy back door at Peter's work.

His work is in what was once a WWI training airfield, hence this sculpture out front.

New Bohemia, indeed.

Interesting shops on South Congress...yes, that is a Jackalope, a Mayan pyramid, and a zebra in a clown suit.

Found! Austin hipsters...even though their tatoos aren't visible here, these guys would have no problem fitting in around Portland. Then again, this coffee shop would have fit in fine, also...American Spirit and Pabst!..except perhaps without the outside seating!

Capitol.

Austin skyline.

Town Lake.

Curious wall texture.

I guess we are in the South, aren't we?

These historic homes are right downtown and are now mostly law offices.

Typical early Austin construction.

A study in contrasts.

Did I honestly hear that this is BIGGER than the national capitol?

My final day in Austin, cold and rainy. This sign was just too funny!
Washington

Early morning ferry from Port Townesend to Whidbey Island.

Snow fell during most of the crossing.

Hanging out with Luke and Nikki on Whidbey...note Luke's NM t-shirt and the new speakers in the background.

Keith and Nicole at Luke's new house on Whidbey.

The always present and ever-enthused Leo.

Colette and I freezing our asses off after eating tasty Italian food.

Remainders of the snow by Lake Washington.

Newly cleaned and organized garage.

Lots of room to pull a car in.

Refined, compact, accessible bike storage. Lathe. Spare T50 transmission under the shelves.
