California Trip-24 Hours of Lemons-Saturday Late Night Carnage and Overnight Break
December 29th, 2007

Team Sin City Lemons was pitted near us and had to do an engine swap on Saturday night in their Crown Vic LTD! They didn't have to drive nearly as far as we did to find an engine, but it still looked like a lot of work! Spirits were high amongst their crew, and it looks like the borrowed the same engine hoist we borrowed on Friday.

This Datsun Z was involved in a hard accident in the dark towards the end of the day's racing...ouch!

Wow...note the crushed air filter, and I can't imagine any of the accesory belts or radiator and rad. plumbing survived.

Team Fieldfind at rest.

Original field find patina!

A nod to the world of aircraft. This car had more style than anyone else out on track, and put in a sedate but consistent tortise-philosophy performance.

Double ouch. I caught these guys with their rolled Datsun 210 hatchback right at the point where they broke out the cocktails...look on the roof!

Much more relaxed service on the second night...brake bleed, bolt check, fluid change.

Joel deeply into work on the interior or taking a short nap? Who knows?

Checking back in with Team Sin City Lemons..the old 302 from their LTD. It is a bit tough to decipher, but the crankshaft is along the vertical axis, so the connecting rod angled across the opening in the plastic just above the center of the hole in the plastic is obviously bent! Now look immediately below the connecting rod at the shiny parts...that is a couple cam lobes, and that part of the cam was at least 45 degrees from the normal orientation!

Sin City Lemons interior. The vinyl top on the outside of their car had custom vinyl with dice, roulette wheels, and cards. The interior had a rollcage trimmed in faux rabbit fur and that awesome upholstery on the race seat which apparently matched the orignal interior upholstery!

Still smiling as they work on the swap.
