California Trip-Sacramento/Palo Alto
December, 2007-January, 2008

Sunset departure from the racetrack to head to Sacramento. We had a similar sunset the following evening, only instead of my car and a parking lot, the foreground was flooded grain fields filled with Sandhill Cranes, geese, swans, ducks, and shorebirds...and I left the camera at home that night, so you will have to imagine!

Playing around with bikes at New Year's. We ended up taking a nice short ride in the sun, but we left PJ's tandem at home.

The sweet classic Colnago I rode. All homes should have a guest bike this nice!

Palo Alto..."breakfust?" Grant and I had an American lunch.

Fairly ritzy and a fun place to stroll around, but a bit quiet for the holiday.

Grant took me by one of the local high-end bike shops, but they were closed...we peeked in the windows.

Grant and I took a hike. It may be old hat for the locals, but I was struck by the sunlight on the oaks.

The ocean is up over that way somewhere...

Getting up to a viewpoint before we lost the sun.

Looking east across the Bay. We were joined up here by a harrier who was hunting for supper. It was really cool to see it hover, slowly glide down at a steep angle like a parasailer, and then dive fast for the last little bit. Grant let me drive his MINI home on the narrow twisties in the twilight!
